John Denham and Labour Councillor for Bitterne Simon Letts will be meeting two groups of Thornhill residents on Friday (4th July) to discuss the residents’ concerns over antisocial behaviour.
The first group want CCTV to be installed in the Lydgate Green area to cut the problems with antisocial behaviour there. John Denham and Simon Letts will meet a group of residents and will receive the petition they have gathered in support of their campaign.
John Denham said “Former Conservative Shadow Home Secretary David Davis has described CCTV as ineffective and intrusive but these residents clearly want it in their area. I hope that our Conservative Council don’t allow political dogma to influence their decision over whether it is provided or not.”
The second group of residents want the council to close a cutway between Hinton Crescent and Dumbleton Copse as it is used by youths committing antisocial behaviour. They will also be presenting a petition to Councillor Letts and John Denham.
John Denham said “Labour introduced legislation to make it possible to put gates in places like this where there is a history of antisocial behaviour. I’ll be supporting Councillor Letts as he tries to get the residents what they want.”
