John Denham has expressed concern about the impact on residents of being moved from The Briars Care Home in Bitterne Park.  The home has been subjected to a closure order imposed by the Commission for Social Care and all residents have had to move out to other homes.

John Denham has raised the matter with the City Council’s Social Services Department and has been assured that the transfers are being handled as well as they can be.

John Denham said “Moving quite elderly people from a home where they are settled can be a traumatic experience for them.  I have been assured by the City Council that it is doing this with as much care as possible.

“We don’t know yet why the Commission for Social Care felt it had to take such strong action in the case of The Briars.  Many of the residents at The Briars were having their care paid for by the City Council and I think this incident reinforces the need for a good mix of care homes in the city in both the private and the public sectors.”
