The Big Care Debate

John held a public meeting, the “Big Care Debate” last month, an opportunity to discuss proposals for a new National Care Service.  John took a leading role in introducing the new plans, which will be fair, simple and affordable; overcoming the inadequacy and unfairness of the current system.

Under the new service: people would be helped to stay independent as long as possible; care needs would be assessed and paid for in the same way across the country; all services would work together smoothly; the system would be easy to understand and navigate; and services will be based on personal circumstance and need.

John said, “Everyone seemed to be supportive of our new proposals.  Several people had their own stories of how the council-run care services in Southampton had let them down, for example by charging people for care they didn’t get.  I will be taking their cases forward.”
