New Action On "Garden Grabbing"

John Denham's Communities and Local Government department has today published, new, independent research that shows inappropriate building on back gardens is not a widespread, national problem and is often linked to council's failure to have local policies in place.

John, has been campaigning for tighter rules on garden grabbing for many years, as it is an issue constituents in areas such as Bitterne Park and Sholing regularly contact him about.

John said, "This new action on inappropraite over-development is claerly something to be welcomed: I know local people who've campaigned with me on this issue will be very pleased with the news.  The research clearly shows that councils with local plans in place are much better equipped to curb "garden grabbing" developments whereby the look and feel of a neigbourhood can be dramatically changed with input from local residents.  I hope these new national planning guidelines will make sure Southampton's gardens stay green."
