Harefield Youth Initiative

Southampton Itchen Labour MP John Denham visited the community football project in Harefield last Friday evening. The Harefield Youth Initiative was set up by local resident Matt Probert to give local young people something to do so that they are not just hanging about on the streets.

Woodlands Community College allows the group free use of one of its artificial pitches and the young people are currently coached by a volunteer. The group is currently applying for help from the Football Foundation KICKZ scheme and its application is being supported by Saints Community Trust, the City Council and the Police.

John Denham said "I think Matt Probert has done an excellent job in setting up this project and in keeping it going. I am supporting the bid for support from the KICKZ programme, which targets some of the most disadvantaged areas of the country. It was great to see the Initiative in action tomorrow."
