For the eleventh year running Asda stores and Depots have raised money for Breast Cancer Care and Breast Cancer Campaign.
John Denham visited Asda at Southampton to look at how the store has raised money for their Tickled Pink Breast Cancer campaign. He said "I am
pleased to support the staff and shoppers at ASDA who have raised substantial amounts of money to help fight breast cancer."
Now in its eleventh year, all 338 stores and 24 depots have helped raise funds and awareness for the disease that effects 44,000 women and 350 men in
the UK every year. The fundraising total to date for the Asda Tickled Pink Campaign is over £16 million. The money raised goes to Asda's two Breast Cancer Charities, Breast Cancer Care and Breast
Cancer Campaign. Funds raised will enable Breast Cancer Care to support thousands more people affected by Breast Cancer in the UK, and Breast Cancer Campaign to fund more research throughout the
UK.
Shoppers at Asda Southampton have shown their support by buying products from a specially selected Tickled Pink range. They have been able to choose
from a wide variety of products exclusively designed to raise funds for the campaign.
Staff at Asda Southampton have held a number of fund raising events to support the charities.
Asda Store Manager Mark Bones (also pictured) said " We are Tickled Pink to have supported these Breast Cancer charities for the eleventh year, and are
delighted that John was able to join us in the store. Our campaign has given people opportunities to raise funds for a worthwhile cause whilst having fun at the same time. All money raised will
benefit Breast Cancer Care and Breast Cancer Campaign and ultimately people affected by breast cancer. "
Breast Cancer Care is the UK’s leading provider of information, practical assistance and emotional support for anyone affected by breast cancer. The money raised through ASDA’s Tickled Pink
campaign supports the delivery of its dedicated services for people touched by breast cancer in the UK, free to anybody who needs them. Over the last 10 years, it has enabled the charity to reach
over 8 million people needing breast cancer support and information on breast health.
The monies raised this year will also specifically fund Breast Cancer Care’s HeadStrong service which supports women experiencing hair loss from
treatment. For more information on breast health, call the Breast Cancer Care helpline free on 0808 800 6000 (for Typetalk prefix 18001) or visit www.breastcancercare.org.uk
Breast Cancer Campaign is the only charity that specialises in funding independent breast cancer research throughout the UK. The money raised funds
research into improving diagnosis, treatment and understanding of how it develops to help find either a cure or a way of preventing cancer. To date, ASDA’s Tickled Pink campaign has helped the
charity fund 23 vital research projects and its first scientific fellowship. For more information visit www.breastcancercampaign.org
