   Hatley Road traffic problems

Van on Hatley Road pavementJohn Denham has been to Hatley Road, Bitterne to see for himself the traffic and parking problems in the road which have occurred since the new flats were built on the corner.  John Denham walked around the area with three local residents who pointed out that, because of all the parked cars, there are very few passing places for cars travelling in opposite directions.  As a result, residents say, vehicles speed along the road to get past the congested section as quickly as possible.  Drivers also drive and park on the pavements.  Residents want to see traffic calming and want the road to become one way only.

The Council is planning to install speed humps during the next few weeks.  While they are being installResidents and JD in Hatley Roaded, the road will become one-way but will revert to two-way traffic when the work is finished.  John Denham said "I will be urging the Council to carry out traffic surveys before, during and after the work to see what difference having a one-way Hatley Road makes."
